Paul L. Smith. age 98, of West Sunbury, passed away at 1:54 A.M. Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Grove City Medical Center following a brief illness.

Paul was born January 11, 1917 in Cherry Township, Butler County.  He was the son of the late Carl C. Smith and the late Lucinda Stevenson Smith.  Paul proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II.  He was attended of the United Church of the Nazarene.  Paul retired in 1982 as a salesman for Electrolux with over thirty years of service.  Paul served his community as a member of the Moniteau School board during the 1960’s and 1970’s.  He was an avid golfer up until the age of 93.  His greatest love was his family and his Cherry Township farm.  He raised cattle as a hobby and loved every minute of the experience for over sixty years.

Paul is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harold “Sim”(Elizabeth)Grossman of West Sunbury, four sons, Paul “Buck” L.(Judy) Smith, Jr. of Bethel OH, Ronald T. Smith of Slippery Rock, Robert S.(Loretta)Smith of West Sunbury and Stephen W.(Shelby)Smith also of West Sunbury, eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Sproull Smith, who died December 17, 2000.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.

The family will receive friends at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main Street, West Sunbury from 6 to 9 Thursday, May 14, 2015.  Visitation will also be held from 10 to 11 Friday, May 15, 2015 at the United Church of the Nazarene, Halston Road, West Sunbury, PA 16061.  Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Tim Britton, of the United Church of the Nazarene, officiating.

Burial will be in the West Sunbury Union Cemetery.

Was sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Smith. I bought hay off of him for many years. He was truly a gentleman and had the absolute secret to growing the best hay. Sorry for your loss.
