Donald R. Cunningham, age 92, of Slippery Rock passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018.

Don was born June 18, 1926 in Uniontown, PA.  He was the son of the late Lawrence Ray Cunningham and the late Nancy Rist Cunningham.  Don served in the United States Navy enlisting three times, the first was during World War II in the U.D.T. and reenlisted as a fireman after the war.  Later he drove bus for Greyhound Bus Lines for forty years amassing four million miles with no accidents.  Greyhound awarded him a bus with his name on it as a result. Don was the first Lifetime member of the American Legion Post 243 in West Sunbury, where he served as both Chaplain and Treasurer for close to two decades.  He was also a life member of the VFW.

Don is survived by three sons, Virgil and Arleen Cunningham of GA, Terry and Deborah Cunningham of Industry and Donald and Debra Cunningham of Boyers; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  Two sisters, Betty Klink of OH and Emma Angelo of Uniontown, and one brother, John Cunningham of FL also survive.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel and his brother, Virgil, who died in the Bataan Death March during the war.

Don loved to golf, shoot pool, go RVing and spending time with his friends at the Legion, where he was affectionately known as Cupcake to all that knew him.  He will be sorely missed, because he was a Gentleman’s Gentleman, and truly one of a kind.

As per Don’s wishes he will be buried at sea with his wife and dog, Kojak.

There will be a memorial service at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church.
