Richard J. “Dick” Campbell, lovingly referred to as “Pappy” passed away at 1:31 A.M. Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Butler Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

Born May 29, 1938 in Washington Township, PA he was the son of the late W. Von and Mary Ann(Christie)Campbell.  He was of the Presbyterian faith.

Dick was a veteran of the United States Army; and retired as a heavy equipment operator from the International Operating Engineers Local 66.  Pappy’s life passion was farming and draft horses, actually horses of any kind.  He had fond childhood memories of his father, Von, farming and logging with horses and those memories never left him.  Pappy’s other love was his grandson, Nicholas, they were together every day.   Pappy was especially present for Nicholas and his mom, Terra, when Jack was deployed to Afghanistan during the Enduring Freedom campaign.

Dick is survived by one daughter, Terra(John)Damico of North Washington; one step daughter, Cheryl(Dr. Silvino)Pazcoguin of Altoona; one grandson, Nicholas Von Damico; and six step grandchildren, Stacy Reachard, Joseph Pazcoguin, Tony Pazcoguin, Gina Pazcoguin, Cory Pazcoguin and Christina Pazcoguin.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Grace, who passed away June 17, 2018, two sisters and
two brothers.  As the last surviving member of the Von Campbell family, Dick’s passing marks the end of an era.

The family will receive friends at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main Street, West Sunbury from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Thursday, January 3, 2019.  Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 4, 2019 with Rev. Robert V. Mathias officiating.

Burial will be in the Mt. Varnum Cemetery.
