Our History

For over a century, the Young Funeral Homes have been serving several communities in Butler County, Pennsylvania. Breaden Young established the Young Funeral Home in West Sunbury in 1896. In 1950, Breaden’s two sons, Robert A. Young and William Foster “Foster” Young, Sr. formed a partnership which existed until 1963. At that time Robert sold his share to his nephew, William Foster “Digger” Young Jr.

The partnership between Foster and Digger continued until 1973 at which time Digger purchased the former J. Clinton Atwell Funeral Home in the city of Butler. Digger along with his children, Monica Campagna, Robin Christy and William Foster “Billy” Young III, and granddaughters Jodi Campagna Brennan and Cori Christy Brown continue to operate Young Funeral Home Ltd. at 131 Jefferson Street in Butler today.

With the passing of Foster in 1976, his wife Joy Cora Wylie Young operated the William F. Young Funeral Home with Daniel Mennor serving as the funeral supervisor. Her son, Edwin, became the funeral supervisor upon his graduation from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1982 and his licensure in 1983. Ed became the sole proprietor of the William F. Young Funeral Home when Cora passed away in 1997.

Ed and his family reside in West Sunbury, Pennsylvania and are proud to serve his hometown and the surrounding communities from the original Young Funeral Home location.
