Christine Hockenberry Obituary

Christine B. Hockenberry, age 74, of Cherry Township passed away May 29, 2026. She was born on June 4, 1951 in Lewistown, PA as the youngest child of William Wadsworth Hockenberry and Thorene Gertrude (Anderson) Hockenberry.

Christine graduated from Moniteau High School class of 1969 and furthered her education at Morehead State University in Kentucky where she received her Bachelor of Science in Food Service Administration. She then worked for Stouffer’s and Marriott before returning home in 1988 to work at Moniteau High School. After her career in food service, she enjoyed many years as a talented florist at Tinker’s Dam in Slippery Rock.  She enjoyed crocheting and shared many afghans and hats with others and liked to play cribbage and build puzzles. She collected Wendell August Forge and was an avid Star Trek fan. She loved the company of her beloved dog, Haun and her porch cats.

She is survived by her siblings: Alice (Michael) Woodring of Mifflintown, Bill (Judith) Hockenberry II of Cherry Township, and Mary (James) Meyer of Plymouth, Minnesota; and her nieces and nephews: Julia, Laura, Bill III, Megan, Marcus, and Gerald; great niece, Tiffany and great nephew, Blake.

Christine was preceded in death by her parents, her companion Gary May, and niece Michele.

Family and Friends will be received from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Wednesday June 3, 2026 at the William F Young Funeral Home 132 Main Street West Sunbury. Graveside services will follow at Slippery Rock Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her family.
