Darrell Daubenspeck Obituary

Beloved father and grandfather, brother and uncle, Darrell Eugene Daubenspeck, 93, of Boyers passed away Sunday February 26, 2023 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. 

He was born on August 10, 1929 in Fairview Township, the son of the late Paul T. and late Florence McGarvey Daubenspeck.  Darrell was predeceased by his first wife Gloria Ferrere Daubenspeck and his second wife, Lois Gorencic Daubenspeck.  He was a graduate of Fairview Township Karns City High School and worked and retired from Witco/ Sonneborn in Petrolia. 

Darrell was a member of St. Faustina Parish, previously serving as Eucharistic minister, lector and parish council member at the Epiphany Church.  He was also chairman of the parish festival and served as sexton of the Epiphany Cemetery for many years.  He was very active in the community and in the past had been an officer of the Marion Township Fire Department and a driver for Moniteau Meals on Wheels.  He was a lifetime member of the Boyers Sportsmen’s Association, had been active in the Northern Butler County Hunting and Fishing Club, and was a member of the Slippery Rock Knights of Columbus.  He was the Butler County Coordinator for the PA Bluebird Society and took great pride in being a member of the PA Voters Hall of Fame.  He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and loved Steeler Sundays in particular. 

Darrell is survived by his children: Renee (Jay) Hewitt of Boyers, Susan Grossman of Boyers, Stacey (Bob) Wolinski of Butler, Scott (Jeanne) Daubenspeck of Kittanning and Mark (April) Daubenspeck of Hooker; his grandchildren: Caitlyn (Matt) Zaksheske, Cody (Hannah) Wolinski, Chase and Calley Wolinski, Brandon (Katelyn) Petras, Christine (Tyler) Toy and Cory and Rachel Petras; and seven great grandchildren.  Also surviving are his brother, Carl (Jeannie) Daubenspeck; and his sisters: Wilma (Ralph) Schnell and Sandy (Bruce) Howells; two step-sons, Ralph and George Henry; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his son, David “Bill” Daubenspeck; a grandson, Nicholas Daubenspeck; his son in law, Mark Grossman; his brother, Paul Daubenspeck Jr.; his sisters, Margaret Schnell and Anita “Faye” Wulff; and his brothers in law, Dean Schnell and Fred Wulff.

Family and Friends will be received for visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday March 1, 2023 at the William F. Young Funeral Home 132 Main Street West Sunbury.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Thursday March 2, 2023 at St. Louis Church of St. Faustina Parish in West Sunbury with Father Sean Francis officiating. Everyone is asked to please meet at church.   

Burial in Epiphany Catholic Cemetery, Boyers.
