Donald E. Somerfield, age 81, of West Sunbury passed away the morning of June 2, 2026 with his wife and family by his side the day of his 62nd wedding anniversary. Don died in the home that he was born in on December 30, 1944 as the son of William Arthur Somerfield and Theona Viora (Tissue) Somerfield Sapp.
Don graduated from Moniteau High School class of 1962 where he was nicknamed “Bull”. He then enlisted into the United States Navy where he served as an Aviation Machinist Mate during the Vietnam conflict. He returned home and began his career with ARMCO in 1968 in the security department retiring in 2001 as Sergeant. He earned an associate’s degree in security administration while working at ARMCO. Following his retirement, he drove school bus for Campbell’s Bus Garage for 18 years. Throughout his life, he enjoyed travelling with his wife on their Honda Gold Wing to all 50 states and most of Canada.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Paula A. (Jones) Somerfield; his devoted daughter, Amy Kelly and her husband Mike of West Sunbury; and he was affectionately known as Poppa to his best friends, his grandsons Shane Kelly and fiancée Jessica Masters and Ryan Kelly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Nancy Neal, and brother William Somerfield.
Family and friends will be received for visitation from 2:00 to 5:00 pm Tuesday June 9, 2026 at the William F. Young Funeral Home 132 Main Street West Sunbury. A Memorial Service will take place at 5:00 pm.
