John K. “Rebel” Wheeler, age 74, of North Washington passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 at his residence.
John was born June 22, 1942 in Shreveport, LA. He was the son of the late James Arthur Wheeler and the late Pauline Eudora McClabb Wheeler. John proudly served his country with the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army as a paratrooper and as a medic with the Army Reserves. He retired from the melt shop at Armco where he worked in the maintenance department. John was also employed as a paramedic with Butler Ambulance(21). He was a member of the North Washington United Presbyterian Church where he served as elder. John was also a member of the North Washington Volunteer Fire Department and the American Legion Post 243 in West Sunbury.
Survived by wife, Shirley Campbell Wheeler, whom he married September 4, 1965, one daughter, LeeAnn(Braden)Campbell of Eau Claire, two sons, Lonnie Wheeler of Hooker and Les Wheeler of San Antonio, TX, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. One sister, Sondra Kay Wheeler, of San Antonio, TX also survives.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Dudley Wheeler.
Friends will be received at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main Street, West Sunbury from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Tuesday, August 2, 2016. Additional visitation will be held at the North Washington Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 from 10 to 11. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Tom Clyde officiating, assisted by family friend, Rev. Robert V. Mathias.
Military honors will be provided at the church by VFW Post 249 of Butler, American Legion Post 117 of Butler and American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the North Washington Presbyterian Church.
