Melvin J. Grossman

Melvin J. Grossman, 82, of Ridgeville passed away Friday May 7, 2021 at Butler Memorial Hospital after a heart seizure.  

Melvin was born on August 3, 1938 in Cherry Township as a son of the late James M. Grossman and late Ruby L. (Phillips) Grossman.  

Melvin was a Mason and Member of the Butler/ Victory Lodge 272 and a Member of the Scottish Rite of New Castle.  He retired from Heckett as a mechanic. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards, going to camp, and spending time with his family.  For many years, Melvin was known in the neighborhood as “The Handyman” always willing to help a neighbor in need.  

Melvin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Irene (Brewster) Grossman whom he married on June 14, 1958; two daughters: Ruth Dunn of Transfer and Karen (Jeffrey) Lyons of Forestville; one son: Melvin “Jim” (Nancy Renick) Grossman of West Sunbury; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister: Ruby “Sis” Delores (George) Early of Hilliards; two brothers: Samuel E. (Doris) Grossman of West Sunbury and Larry J. (Judy) Grossman of Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

Melvin was preceded in death by one brother, one granddaughter, and one son-in-law.  

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday May 11, 2021 at the William F. Young Funeral Home 132 Main Street West Sunbury.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday May 12, 2021 at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Miller officiating.  

Burial will be in Rosewood Cemetery.
