Melvin Scheerbaum Obituary

Melvin G. “Mel” Scheerbaum, age 83, of North Washington passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Mel was born September 26, 1934 in Buffalo Township, Butler County to the late Gustave Scheerbaum and the late Thelma Isabelle Stevenson Scheerbaum.  He retired from Armco and also drove school bus.   Mel lived his entire life on a farm.  He used his horses for farming and taught many people, including his children and grandchildren how to ride, drive and care for horses. Mel was a member of the Zion Methodist Church in Sarver.  He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Draft Horse and Mule Association and the Butler Farm Show and was named to the Horseman’s Hall of Fame.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Heidi Scheerbaum, whom he married August 30, 2003; his children, Marilyn Hall, Charles Scheerbaum, and his wife, Kimberly, Deana Lasher, and her husband, William, Allen Scheerbaum, and his wife, Deanna and Carol Scheerbaum; his step children, Chad Ray, and his fiancé Tara Reed, Johonna Belanger and Crystal Shea, and her husband, Eric; his grandchildren, Dustin, Lacee, Sister Krista Marie, O.D., Therese, Timothy, Victoria, Alanna, Cliff, Jenna. Jessica, Jamisen, Aurora, Julian, Kenai, Michael and Kayla; and his great grandchildren, Sofia, Gabriel, Seth, Haylie, Ella, Madison, Tyler, O’Rien, Zazmina and Malakye.  One sister, Henrietta Garvin and one brother, Earl Scheerbaum and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mel was preceded in death by one son, Melvin Eugene Scheerbaum and one sister, Harriet Scheerbaum Mackrell.

Services and burial will be private.
