Richard Dale “Rick” Christie, 75, of Hooker passed away on June 28th, 2022, at Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot after a courageous 11-month fight with cancer.
Born on February 14th, 1947, in Hilliards, he was the son of the late H. Keith “Monk” and Devona R. “Snook” Stevens Christie. Rick married Carol Lee Twentier on May 1, 1965. They celebrated 57 years together this past May. Together they had four children, Rich, Jeff, Mike, and Leslie. He was a member of the 1966 Moniteau Jr./Sr. High School class. Rick was a member of the Concord Presbyterian Church in Hooker, was a lifetime member of the Valley Dam Sportsmen’s Snowmobile Association and lifetime member of the Northern Butler County Hunting and Fishing Club and a member of the Sons of The American Legion Post 243 in West Sunbury. He loved to golf and was an avid NASCAR fan. He worked as a welder at Pullman Standard from 1966 until its closure. Following his welding career he began a career in logistics, first as a driver, then an operator, eventually founding R.D. Christie Trucking. Together with his son, Jeff, in 1997 he co-founded Christie Excavating, where he continued working until his retirement in April 2022.
Rick will be greatly missed by his wife Carol, daughter Leslie (Tony) Carnahan of Hooker, two sons, Richard (Tammy) Christie of Sugar Land, Texas, and Michael (Tiffany) Christie of Annisville. Eight grandchildren: Devin Christie, Nicholas Christie, Ethan Freshwater, Layne Christie, and Declan Christie, all of Hooker, Alexander Christie of Annisville, Jordan Christie and Dylan Christie of Sugar Land, Texas, and his lifelong best friend Lyle Hutchinson of Karns City. He is also survived by siblings, Dixie (Don) Jackson, of Hooker, Howard (Judy) Christie of Butler, Lana (Bruce) Toth of Eau Claire, and Jody (Pete) Campbell of Hilliards and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry (Caroline) Twentier of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Gary (Darlene) Twentier of Eau Claire, Cathy (Kent) Campbell of Polk, and Mark (Beth) Twentier of Sarver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jeffrey A. Christie, who passed away May 6th, 2003, a brother, Sherwell (Pete) Christie in February, a nephew, Steve Christie, a niece, Darla (Christie) Reese and a brother-in-law, Clyde Twentier, Jr.
Friends and family of Richard Dale Christie, who died Tuesday, June 28th, 2022 will be received for visitation from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm Friday. July 1st, 2022 at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main Street, West Sunbury. Funeral Services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, July 2nd at Concord Presbyterian Church, 625 Hooker Road, West Sunbury with the Rev. Bob Edmundson officiating. Rick will be laid to rest following the service at the Concord Cemetery.
