Russell L. “Big Russ” Miller Sr. age 88, of Renfrew passed away the afternoon of Wednesday February 4, 2026 in the comfort of his home with his wife and his son at his side.
Born on September 7, 1937, he was the son of Floyd and Edna May (Bucher) Miller.
He served 6 years in the Army National Guard where was known as “Bull Moose”. He then was a dedicated masonry laborer in the Butler area and retired with over 50 years from Butler Local #323. Russ was a lifetime member of the East Butler Fireman’s Club where he was known as “Whistler”.
Russ is survived by his wife of 61 years, Vi (Hoffman) Miller whom he married on August 15, 1964 and his son, Russell “Rusty” Miller Jr. of Chicora. He is also survived by one sister, Jane Weichey, of Butler; five sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law; many nieces and nephews as well as many good friends and neighbors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Miller and his wife Erla of Long Island, NY; one sister-in-law and five brothers-in-law.
His family wishes to send a special thanks to all persons who have helped the family care for Russ as his health declined.
Services and Burial at Greenlawn Burial Estates were held privately.
The Young family of William F. Young Funeral Home 132 Main Street West Sunbury has assisted the family with arrangements.
