Virginia Lee Zehr, age 83, of West Sunbury formerly of Seadrift, Texas and Carthage, New York passed away peacefully the morning of March 29, 2026 at Good Samaritan Hospice House after a brief illness.
She was born on October 17, 1942, the daughter of Alvin Lee and Ruby Helen (Carter) Henderson as a fourth generation Texas Seadrifter. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide for many years and was a devout homemaker. She knitted, crocheted and quilted among many other talents and lovingly made blankets and birth announcements for her family of whom she was so proud. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Virginia was an avid genealogy researcher and loved learning more about her family’s history as her family was originally one of the first Texas families.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 69 years, Arlis Francis Zehr, whom she married on June 22, 1957; two daughters: Belinda (Roy) Rupp of North Washington, Pennsylvania and Krista (Billy) Resnicky of Medway, Ohio; two sons, Arlis F. Zehr II (Robin) of Copenhagen, New York and George Zehr of Houston, Texas; thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
She is also survived by two sisters: Ruby (Joe) Johnson and Lucindye Anderson both of Arkansas and one brother, Elmer (Tanya) Deforst of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Virginia was preceded in death by her daughter, Dawna Welch; her son, Alvin Zehr; one granddaughter, Tiffany DiGiacomo; three brothers: Russell, Alvin, and Austin; and one sister, Myrtle.
A Celebration of Virginia’s life will be held in the summer of 2026.
Cremation Services have been entrusted to the William F Young Funeral Home 132 Main Street West Sunbury, PA.
